His Excellency President Baron Waqa received the high commissioner of Australia to Nauru at the formal presentation of credentials at the Office of the President today, 5 January.
High Commissioner Angela Tierney arrived at the government office this morning and was met by the Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade Michael Aroi and presented copies of her Letter of Credence, before being received by the Commissioner of Police for the playing of the national anthems and inspection of the Nauru Police guard of honour.
Ms Tierney was then escorted to the Office of the President for the presentation of credentials.
The high commissioner then presented the letter of recall from her predecessor and her own letter of credence appointing her as high commissioner to Nauru.
President Waqa welcomed Ms Tierney and hopes for continued mutual understanding and partnership between their two countries during her tenure as high commissioner to Nauru.
Ms Tierney continues courtesy calls on the deputy Speaker of Parliament Asterio Appi and cabinet ministers.
Ms Tierney is a career officer with the Australian department of foreign affairs and trade having commenced her career with DFAT in 1999. Prior to her posting to Nauru she served as high commissioner to Abuja Nigeria.
Ms Tierney holds a graduate diploma in foreign affairs, Bachelor of Law, Master of Business Administration and Master of International Law.
