The Government of Nauru has extended its deepest sympathies to the family of Hon Valdon Dowiyogo who passed away overnight.
His Excellency President Baron Waqa said Mr Dowiyogo was a highly regarded cabinet minister and extremely capable member of Parliament.
“Mr Dowiyogo served in my first cabinet from 2013 and carried out his ministerial duties with honour, integrity and diligence.
“He was returned to Parliament earlier this year and continued his cabinet roles as Minister for Health, Transport, Sport and Fisheries,” President Waqa said.
“All of Nauru is sad today and we grieve for his family, yet find peace in the knowledge that he is now enjoying good health in God’s care.”
Mr Dowiyogo, the son of former President Bernard, was 48 and was in Russia on government business when he passed away suddenly.
